Online Safety
Online safety is an important issue we want to help tackle, and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre have a great site ideal for parents and children to explore to help educate us further!
Find out what’s good, what’s not and what you can do about it. If you look after young people there’s an area for you too – with resources you can use in the classroom, at home or just to get with it. Most importantly, there’s also a place which anyone can use to report if they feel uncomfortable or worried about someone they are chatting to online.
School updates its parents on important online safety notices throughout the school year, by holding parental workshops or by the school newsletter or letter. In addition, we ensure that all our Year 6 children are given the latest bespoke training before their transition to high school.
Online or E-safety is becoming a real issue in schools. In order to keep our children safe, we have decided that children at St Wilfrid’s will not be allowed their own mobile devices on any school trips and school events AND parish or community events, where our staff are responsible for the supervision and safety of the children. Rest assured we will utilise school cameras and devices to safely record such significant events.
We do allow parents and carers to take photos and videos of their children at significant stages of school life, such as sports days, class assemblies, school nativities and performances and other school events. However, this is on the strict understanding that any images which may contain other children or staff are not shared online in order to keep our whole school community safe.
When your child first starts St Wilfrid's, we will ask for your signed permission for us to take photos for use around school and on school promotional materials, including our school information pack, our school Facebook and this website. We will not use your child's photo without your permission.
Whilst parents are responsible for the safety of the children at home, many parents do not realise or understand the real safeguarding risks of simply giving their children a phone or mobile device.
