General Information

St Wilfrid’s RC Primary school is pleasantly situated at the end of St. Wilfrid’s Terrace, Longridge, alongside the Church, off Derby Road.  We have ample playing fields and look out towards beautiful fells and countryside. Indeed, all our classes are names after local hills and fells.

The school itself is a modern one-storey building with light airy classrooms and good-sized resource areas. A purpose built Nursery and Breakfast and After-school Club are on site.

Ramp access and special toilet facilities are available for children and visitors who use wheelchairs.

St. Wilfrid’s is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School, which means that although the County Council is responsible for providing money for salaries, books, equipment etc, the school itself is owned by the Church.  The Governors of the School look after the maintenance of the fabric of the building with the help and advice of the Diocesan Schools Commission. Our Diocese is Salford.

As a primary school we admit children at the beginning of the school year (September – August) in which their fifth birthday falls.  They leave the school at the end of the school year in which their eleventh birthday occurs and move on to the secondary sector.  St. Wilfrid’s is a feeder primary school for St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic High School.

Up to thirty children are admitted each year as four/five year olds. There are now about 200 children in the school. We have 7 straight age classes.  Please see ‘Our Class Structure’ under ‘Our Classes’ tab on this website for more information.

We always welcome the opportunity to show prospective parents around the school.  Please call in or telephone for an appointment.

As you are probably aware St. Wilfrid’s is a Roman Catholic School but we offer places to all children regardless of religious denomination or belief.

Before your child is due to start school in the Autumn Term, you will be contacted by Lancashire County Council and asked to fill in a more detailed Admission form online.  This admission form will then be considered by the Governing Body in the light of the School’s Admission policy.

Please see the Admissions tab for the current Admission policy and further details.
