This Autumn 2 overview:

Curriculum Overview Beacon Autumn 2 2020-2021

Topic:

Our current topic is ‘The Amazon Basin, Rainforests and Biomes.’ We have created some beautiful art work inspired by jungle artist Henri Rousseau. We have been learning about where rainforests are located in the world and have particularly focused on the Amazon Rainforest in South America. We have studied physical and human features in geography and have compared the features of the UK to those of Brazil.

This half term we will be joined by a successful artist, via Zoom. He will guide us in our sketching of rainforest animals. We can’t wait!

Here is our ‘knowledge organiser’ for our topic:

Knowledge Organiser Science – Science Living Things and their Habitats

Design Technology:

In DT, we are working in pairs to create sculptures of the layers of the rainforest. We will be adding a working pulley system to our design.

English

Our English work has been focused around Faraway Tales from this area of the world too. This has inspired some very interesting descriptive writing!

Maths

So far in Maths, we have covered place value and are now learning how to add/subtract numbers up to 1,000,000! Alongside this, we have been working hard on our times tables. We use lots of different methods to support our learning. Times table bingo is a class favourite!

PE

In Beacon, we have been learning about the importance of PE, but additionally the impact it has on our physical and mental health. This term, the focus has been on fundamental movements and the children have been put through their paces. Each lesson the children will partake in a 10 minute workout burst to keep us fit and healthy. Additionally, the children love playing the rock, paper, scissors game which you can see below.

Big Art Week

Next half term, we will continue our forest theme in Big Art Week when we will become really creative, inspired by a piece of forest themed music. We will share with you our work. Watch this space!
