Big Art Week – Parlick

For Big Art Week this year Parlick class listened to the finale of Firebird Suite (1911) by Igor Stravinsky.

We thought about the movements that the bird might make and what it could be doing at different points in the music, listening out for changes in the dynamics and tempo. We discussed the different instruments we could see and hear as we watched the orchestra play the piece before discussing the images and colours it made us think of.

We created scratch art bubbles with pictures of feathers that showed these colours as well as our own individual interpretations of the firebird out of craft materials.

We made handprint birds and threaded in feathers. Parlick class did really well cutting out the tricky hand shapes.

We created silhouettes of the firebird with flames fanning out by painting over a template in fiery colours.

Finally, we created a group project; a large stained glass window of the firebird flying.
