Big Art Week – Bowland

This year for big art week Bowland class was inspired by Johann Christian Bach because his music sounds dark and mysterious, which linked to our topic of The Great Plague 1665 – 1666.

We began our week by doing a free drawing response to the piece of music. There were no rules, we just had to draw something that reflected what we felt or “saw” when listening to the music. We then explored a variety of different art techniques. We used charcoal, oil pastels and cellophane. We practiced a variety of techniques to create different effects and then used them to create  bubbles for our whole school display through mark making.

We linked the music to our art focus for this term. In class we are learning about the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Firstly, we looked at the work by the artist and wrote how his art made us feel. Then we learned how to draw skulls and designed our patterns. After that, we created our background in the style of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Finally, We placed our skulls on to the background and completed our art.
